VULNERABLE & ENDANGERED AFRICAN ELEPHANT

Did you know there are only approx 415,000 African elephants remaining in the wild?  These magnificent animals have a lifespan of 60-70 years, weigh 2-7 ton, and their size is up to 4 metres or 13'.  The female elephants, the cows, give birth to only one calf every 3-6 years so the elephant regeneration rate is 5-6% annually.  Did you also know that the greatest predators of these majestic animals are human beings and that the rate of poaching is 8-9% annually of their population, resulting in a net loss to their numbers each year.  At the current rate of poaching, the African elephant may well be extinct before the end of our own lives. The ivory trade, driven by consumer demand, has grown into a highly developed international network of traffickers and markets.

Organisations such as the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) work tirelessly to put an end to the killing, the trafficking, and the demand for ivory, while protecting land and habitats, and empowering communities. You will find their organisation and a wealth of more information at www.awf.org.

With a committment to conservation, Whitetail will contribute donations from sales to select conservation organisations.
