CRITICALLY ENDANGERED RED WOLF
The Red Wolf, a shy, largely nocturnal native to Southeast US, is a critically endangered species with only a handful remaining in the wild. The species lost approx 99.7% of their territory and came to near extermination through hunting, competition for food, persecution, disease, and parasites. As a result, in 1870 Fish & Wildlife Service captured less than 20 wild wolves and they were taken to breeding facilities. In1987 they were reintroduced into the wild but unfortunately recovery efforts have been largely thwarted and they remain critically endangered. The Red Wolf pairs for life.
